What is DCMS and what does it do?
These priorities are focused around creating a sporting legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games, including:
What do the DCMS do in regard to development in Sport?
  • Jeremy Hunt hails economic legacy from 2012 Games as £1.8 billion retail gateway to Olympic park officially opens.
  • UK Sport is looking for athletes with raw talent to develop into future medalists.
  • Army, Royal Navy and RAF personnel urged to sign up to see the Games.
  • National Lottery fund is part of the Places People Play legacy programme.
 What is the DCMS roles?
The Government Olympic Executive (GOE), which is part of the DCMS, oversees the entire London 2012 project.

We supervise £9.3 billion of public sector funding which comes from a variety of sources including central Government, London authorities and the National Lottery. We produce Quarterly Economic Reports and Annual Reports which provide a full financial update on our progress.
We will ensure that the Games are delivered on time, on budget and for the benefit of the whole country.

  • delivering the mass participation Places, People Play strategy, which was launched on 15 November 2010.
